Book of the Month – August 2019

Standard

Love seeing the new selection from Book of the Month! What did the judges choose this month? Maybe a mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, a gripping memoir, a dramatic love story, a tale of struggles, I can’t wait to find out! Each month 5 judges including a guest judge skim hundreds of books and select those hidden gem novels you’ve always wanted to read (not just those books on the bestseller list that every single person has read). Judges can include well known book editors, best selling authors and celebrities! On the first of the month the books are posted with a quick review to help you make your selection, then you simply choose one or more hardcovers by the 6th of the month! Here are the August selections to choose from;

  1. The Whisper Man by Alex North – BOTM Quick take: Unsettling, spooky, and a little gruesome at times. Read with the lights on because the creep factor is real here.
  2. The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware – BOTM Quick take: From the author of The Lying Game and The Woman in Cabin 10, a jumpy read that feels like putting together a puzzle.
  3. The Reckless Oath We Made by Bryn Greenwood – BOTM Quick take: Strong Don Quixote vibes, from the author of All the Ugly and Wonderful Things. Better brush up on ye Olde English.
  4. Dominicana by Angie Cruz – BOTM Quick take: Inspirational in the sense that a young girl in a painful situation has moments of true optimism and compassion.
  5. Well Met by Jen DeLuca – BOTM Quick take: A cute romance that makes us kind of want to go to a Renaissance Faire. (Shakespeare knowledge not required.)
